Created By Marketing Executives With Too Much Downtime, Part 3

Today Borders books sent out an e-mail to their mailing list that contained a series of coupons and sales notices. One of those sales qualifies as...

The Saddest Direct Marketing Campaign Offer of All Time

Here, for your review, is the offer in that qualifies Borders for this dubious distinction.

Offering consumers 5 romance novels for the price of 4 (and making the offer a week before Valentines Day) crosses the line from "meeting the consumer's untapped needs" to "exploiting the consumer's human frailty at a time of emotional weakness."

I am soooo exploited...and in this case don't mind one damn bit. If any bookseller would like to offer a SALE on the books I (an apparently frail romance reader) prefer to read I'm all for it, Valentine's Day or not.
Give me a freakin' break, you will not find to many readers of romance disappointed at this sort of exploitment, actually think they will enjoy the BARGAIN.

You know what I love about this? You tried to be all snarky and sarcastic, putting down romance readers and trying to show Borders in a bad light, but instead what you did was post a blog that several romance reader and romance review sites linked to, thereby ensuring that the romance reading community online are aware of the sale and likely bringing in more business to Borders. I, for one, thank you. I was unaware of this sale and might have missed it.

Romance readers, writers, and reviewers are not, by any means, frail, on the whole. Perhaps you should do a little research on the subject. Many of us are smart, strong women with the backbone and wit to defend ourselves and our preferred genre to whomever might malign us.
